World Olympic Dreams
BBC1 13:00pm - 13:30pm

A look at 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medal-winning Mongolian boxer Badar Uugan Enkhbatyn's preparations, as he bids for another title in London, and reveals how he first learned to fight when growing up in a rough neighbourhood in Ulan Bataar.

Six Nations Rugby 2012
BBC1 13:30pm - 16:30pm
France v Italy

John Inverdale and guests are at Murrayfield for the start of the 2012 Six Nations. They look ahead to what is set to be a fascinating tournament, before handing to Gabby Logan for the first match of the championship, as France face Italy in Paris.
In 2011 the Italians stunned the French by pulling off one of the biggest shocks in the tournament's history with a thrilling 22-21 win in Rome. It was the Azzuri's greatest victory and left Les Bleus in a state of shock. Then-coach Marc Lievremont immediately dropped six players and accused his squad of cowardice. Philippe Saint-Andre is now in charge of a new-look team, and will expect his side to bury the ghosts of that defeat by getting their Grand Slam bid off to solid start. Italy also have a new coach in Frenchman Jacques Brunel, who therefore has an added incentive to lead his side to another famous victory.

Six Nations Rugby 2012
BBC1. 16:30pm - 19:00pm
Scotland v England

John Inverdale is joined by Jeremy Guscott and Andy Nicol for the Calcutta Cup clash between Scotland and England at Murrayfield.
Defending champions England come into the 2012 Six Nations off the back of a chastening six months in which they suffered embarrassment both on and off the pitch. A dismal World Cup campaign saw their players make the front page of the papers as much as the back pages due to a string of unsavoury incidents in New Zealand. It ultimately led to Martin Johnson losing his job as head coach, and temporary incumbent Stuart Lancaster has picked a hugely-revamped squad for the Six Nations.
Scotland also had a miserable World Cup, exiting at the group stage for the first time in the tournament's history. Their performances in last year's Six Nations were not much better, and they only avoided the wooden spoon with a victory over Italy in the last round of matches.

Six Nations Rugby 2012
BBC1 14:30pm - 17:00pm
Ireland v Wales

John Inverdale is joined by Jonathan Davies, Keith Wood and Jeremy Guscott for coverage of Ireland and Wales's opening match of the 2012 Six Nations.
Going into last year's match between the sides Ireland had lost only once in Cardiff since 1983, but Wales ground out a gritty 19-13 victory that briefly gave them hope of winning the championship. It was not to be, though, as both sides finished with identical records of three wins and two defeats.
Later in the year, Wales came within a whisker of reaching the World Cup final, so their young side will have high hopes of winning this year's championship. Ireland are without their talismanic captain Brian O'Driscoll, so a lot may rest on the experienced shoulders of Ronan O'Gara and Paul O'Connell.
Commentary comes from Eddie Butler and Phillip Matthews.

3/5  BBC4 10:00pm - 23:00pm
The New Generation
Episode image for The New Generation
Episode 3 of 5
Duration: 1 hour
Ten years in the making, this series explores how a violent and racist government was destroyed by the concerted efforts of men and women working on multiple fronts inside and outside South Africa for more than three decades. Featuring archive of the struggle never seen before on television and interviews with the major players, it is one of the most fascinating stories of the last century. In the third episode, in the wake of the Soweto Uprising and the murder of Steve Biko the world's young people take the lead in the anti-apartheid campaign.
The brutal suppression of a youth uprising in the South African township of Soweto and the murder of activist Biko turn South Africa from a country into a cause, a worldwide emblem of injustice. But even as the most powerful western governments refuse to heed Oliver Tambo's calls for cultural and economic boycotts, it is the world's youth that helps turn the tide.

Ken Russell: a Bit of a Devil
BBC 2.  21:00pm - 21:50pm
Following the recent death of Ken Russell, Alan Yentob looks back over the career of the flamboyant film director responsible for Women In Love, Tommy and The Devils. Friends and admirers - including Glenda Jackson, Terry Gilliam, Twiggy, Melvyn Bragg, Robert Powell and Roger Daltrey - recall a pioneering documentary-maker, talented photographer and fearless film director.
When at the BBC in the Sixties, Russell first established his name with brilliant documentaries on Elgar, Delius and Debussy. Not only did he bring alive their music with inspiring images, he also humanised them by using actors, something unthinkable in factual film-making at the time. His unfettered imagination soon led to feature films. Women In Love earned Glenda Jackson an Oscar and notoriety for a nude wrestling scene featuring Oliver Reed and Alan Bates. Although infamy dogged him with The Devils, he enjoyed considerable commercial success with The Boyfriend and his extravagant take on The Who's Tommy. Furiously creative to the end, Russell showed himself determined to pursue his original ideas, sometimes regardless of the personal cost.

Gypsy Blood: True Stories
Chanel 4.  22:00pm - 23:35pm
Filmed over two years by award-winning photographer Leo Maguire, Gypsy Blood examines the violent culture that some gypsy and traveller fathers hand on to their sons.
The film is an intimate portrait of two gypsy families, their fight for respect and the price they pay in cycles of revenge that can erupt into sudden and terrifying violence.
The Dohertys are Irish Traveller royalty. While Hughie Doherty, 27, becomes embroiled in a fight to defend his family's name, his seven-year-old son Francie is caught between two worlds, learning to read at primary school while learning to fight with his fists at home.
Fred Butcher is Romany but torn between the gypsy fighting tradition and his love as a father. His nine-year-old son, Freddy Cole, is terrified his father will be badly hurt in a fight. The film follows the story of how Fred nearly dies in a machete attack as a day of drinking and sparring goes terribly wrong.
Gypsy Blood is a haunting study of masculinity, violence and the uneasy relationship gypsy and traveller men have with their bare-knuckle traditions, and an insight into people living amongst a wider society but sometimes with values that are a world apart.
Gyspy Blood is part of True Stories, which commissions and showcases the best feature-length documentaries.
